Planned care: a key priority
Nearly 2,000 patients are seen every day in outpatient clinics, and our hospitals perform 200 non-emergency operations every day. This number is likely to increase in the next five years.
We know that some of these patients could be managed by GPs or other community services, such as walk-in centres, with access to the right specialist advice and guidance and the appropriate tests.
This frees up space for appointments and operations in our hospitals, which helps keep down waiting times.
Dr David Peel explains how Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) wants all clinicians working for the NHS in the city to work together more effectively for the benefit of patients. To do this the CCG is focusing on getting the right people to be referred to the right services, first time.
