Overview

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is a national NHS programme designed to make it easier for people suffering from common mental health problems like anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to be able to access talking therapy treatments.

What are talking therapies?

We're making some changes 

We're making some changes to our talking therapies services to ensure that:

  • you're assessed by a trained professional so that the most appropriate therapies are offered to you
  • the waiting time for your therapy will be shorter 
  • your therapist will have more flexibility around the number of sessions you have

Recently, we ran some online surveys to ask people what they thought of the changes we're proposing. We also asked those organisations which provide our services, GPs and other healthcare professionals for their views.

That consultation is now closed, but we would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views.
